Commentaire

A. jukesbrownei est index de zone au sommet du Cénomanien moyen.
Macroconque jusqu’à 30 cm, microconque jusqu’à 17 cm. Le juvénile se distingue d’A. rhotomagense par une ou plusieurs côtes intercalaires entre les primaires, avec ou sans tubercule latéro-ventral interne, alors plus faible, au lieu d’une alternance régulière de côtes longues et courtes à tubercules latéro-ventraux internes similaires. Les côtes courtes persistent jusqu’à 12 cm chez les formes primitives et jusqu’à maturité chez les autres. Les clavi latéro-ventraux externes et siphonaux déclinent chez l’adulte, laissant un large ventre arqué à plat. La section devient trapézoïdale avec d’éventuelles cornes latéro-ventrales, qui donnent alors un profil costal concave jusqu’aux bullae ombilicales.

Nom tiré des feuilles d’Acanthe, auxquelles les sutures ressemblent.
Tours initiaux ronds à carrés avec des tubercules ombilicaux, latéro-ventraux internes/externes et siphonaux. Côtes divisées ou alternant longues et courtes. Sur les tours externes, elles deviennent simples et uniformes ou gardent une alternance longues et courtes et s’affaiblissent parfois. Les tubercules siphonaux peuvent disparaître alors que les latéro-ventraux peuvent fusionner en d’imposantes cornes.

Formes dont certaines ont des tubercules dominants et d’autres des côtes dominantes, toutes possédant des tubercules siphonaux au moins à certains stades de croissance.

Albien sup. à Coniacien.
Explosion évolutive à partir du Cénomanien. Tuberculation généralement très forte. Au moins un tubercule ombilical et un latéro-ventral dans la plupart des genres. Pour certains cependant, la costulation domine la tuberculation. Pour d’autres, l’ornementation peut-être très atténuée ou même absente du tour externe. Enroulement généralement évolute. Section comprimée à très déprimée. Dimorphisme sexuel matérialisé seulement par la taille.

Albien inférieur à Maastrichtien.
Formes typiquement fortement costulées tendant à développer une tuberculation proéminente, mais incluant aussi une large variété d’autres types.
