Morphoceras macrescens (Buckman 1923) (M)

Bathonien inf. (zone à zigzag).
Tours internes sphaerocônes, tours externes planulés. Bande ventrale lisse. Typiquement, mais pas systématiquement, présence de nombreuses constrictions obliques profondes qui coupent la costulation.

Bajocien sup. à Bathonien inf.
Supposés dérivés des Perisphinctidae primitifs au Bajocien moy., ils reprennent des caractères généraux de cette famille au Bathonien inf.
Formes sphaeorocônes ou planulées ou combinant ces stades. Côtes polyfurquées régulièrement tronquées obliquement par une constriction. Le ventre porte généralement une bande lisse ou est creusé d’un sillon. Les sutures sont relativement simples avec un lobe suspensif non rétracté.

Perisphinctoidea Steinmann 1890

Bajocien inférieur (zone à Humphresianum) à Hauterivien supérieur-Barrémien inférieur.
Grand groupe comprenant des morphologies très variées, les plus typiques et récurrentes étant les formes planulatiformes évolutes à côtes tranchantes et divisées. Autour gravitent d’autres formes, à enroulements cadicônes, sphaerocônes, voire oxycônes, ornementation coronatiforme à grossièrement cunéiforme, aboutissant à beaucoup d’homoéomorphies internes ou externes à la super-famille. Le dimorphisme est répandu, les macroconques présentant une ouverture simple et parfois une très grande taille, les microconques pouvant être très différents, parfois nains, planulatiformes ou à enroulement excentrique, l’adulte portant, sauf exception, des apophyses jugales. La selle latérale interne n’est pas divisée par un lobe U_n, sauf chez les Parkinsoniinae. [Enay & Howarth 2019, Howarth 2017]
